    The machine has been designed and developed to perform the abandonment and the recovery of the pipeline into and from the sea. This action can be necessary during the laying operation, depending on the sea condition.

    The abandonment and the recovery of the pipeline is performed by the winch using the winding system and a rope, that is connected through an abandonment/recovery fitting to the pipeline end.

    The machine consists of the following main subassemblies:

    • structure

    • winding system

    • front motorization

    • rear motorization

    • tensiometer support (optional)

    The machine is powered by the following electrical motors:

    • three motors operate the rope roller and the winding system;

    • two other motors operate the hydraulic braking system and the recirculating/lubricating system.

    The hydraulic braking system powers the opening of the roller brakes while the lubricating system lubricates the pinions that drives the rope roller. This system is equipped with a filtering unit.

    The machine is controlled through a control desk and it can be operated both in automatic and manual mode.

    Within each operating mode it is possible to select a current or velocity sub-mode, by which the operator sets the parameters of the motors that the on-board computer takes as reference to control and regulate the winding system.

    A tensiometer assembly can be supplied and installed to measure the tension of the rope.

    When the machine is provided with a load cell to senses the rope tension, the signal is converted to analogue by a digital amplifier that sends it to the control box. This signal is then compared to the set point that has been selected by the operator to control the rope tension through the motors power.
