This
Firing
Line Equipment has been designed to perform the handling of pipe sections
and strings from the storage area to the firing ramp of the vessel. The pipe
sections need to be transported from the storage area to the processing machines,
where they are bevelled and welded. The welding process has the purpose to
manufacture a quadruple joint string. Then, after the welding and the NDT
inspections, the quadruple joint strings are transported along the firing
line. The line consists of the following three major sections:
The
whole system is based on the following different machines, each of them accomplishing
a dedicated function. The machines are listed in the order of the stations
passed by the pipe sections during the process, from the storage area to the
firing ramp.

The
control system has been designed to allow the safe control of the whole system
through three main control desks and some local control desks and boxes.
The
firing line electrical system consists of three electrical enclosures and
the necessary junction boxes and cables. The enclosures contain all the power
and control components. Each of them is conditioned by a dedicated cooler
unit. They are so identified:

The
status of the Firing Line Equipment can be monitored through a dedicated software.
The Firing Line Equipment is provided with a Personal Computer, that must
be linked to the Line control system through dedicated connections. A dedicated
software is loaded in the PC to display all the necessary Firing Line status
information. The software operates in a Windows 95/98 environment and the
user interface follows the Windows standards.
